SOCIAL SECURITY SCHEME ADVOCATED (Rec. 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 19. A social security scheme on a ocntnbutory basis was advocated at the first annual convention of the Liberal Party. The convention urged that every man and woman should receive £2 ' 10s a week on reaching the age of 60, irrespective of means or employment. The convention voted in favour of the State's paying the medical and chemists fees of all old>-a°;e and invalid pensioners, but is opposed the nationalisation of medical services.

It was decided that the principle of the 40-hour five-day week should be introduced constitutionally by means of the Arbitration Court, and applied where it was pconomicallv possible.
