REBELLION IN VENEZUELA

HEAVY FIGHTING REPORTED (llec. 11.5 a.m.) CARACAS, Oct. 19. A rebellion has broken out in Venezuela, reports the Colombia radio correspondent. All the armed forces remain loyal to the Government except a; very small minority of officers. Government forces, personally commanded by President Medina, captured tbe San Carlos barracks. Heavy fighting is reported at Marocay. 31' miles east of Caracas. Government troops claim to control Mara cay airfield. Rebellious forces from San Carlos barracks are reported to have taken possession of President Medina's residence at Caracas.

The Associated Press says Venezuela is in the midst of a presidential campaign with a former president. General Contreras, a Liberal, and Dr Alfredo P ; '"rgiani, a Democrat, as contestants.
