SOVIET AMBASSADOR TO U.S.

RECALL TO MOSCOW AROUSES SPECULATION

WASHINGTON, October 17. A possibility of developing improved relations with Russia is seen in the quick and unannounced departure by Elane for Moscow of the Soviet Amassador, M. Gromyko, who arrived from London late yesterday. Although no official announcement was made, the White House indicated that M Gromyko called on President Truman. M. Gromyko’s hurried trip and the White House call. are regarded as encouraging indications of some move to clear away misunderstandings, either through normal diplomatic channels or possibly through a “ Big Three ” meeting, in an effort to repair the damage done at the London conference to the relations between Russia and Britain and America.
