(From Our Correspondent.) Sudden Death.—Mr Richard James Waters, a rope'attendant employed at the Kaitangata mine, died suddenly while engaged at his work about 1 p.m. yesterday (Wednesday). An inquest was opened and adjourned. Swimming.—There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Balclutha Swimming and Lifesaving Club on Tuesday night. Mr A. Miller presiding. The report showed that the membership totalled 247.

Thirty-one members had joined the forces and three—R. Arbuthnott, W O. Chirnside, and Flight-lieutenant R. Petrie, D.F.C.—had made the supreme sacrifice The balance-sheet showed receipts totalling £2OO 8s 6d, including £lO 13s 4d brought forward Expenditure totalled £l7B 15s Bd, leaving a credit of £2l 12s 6d.
