Green in the final round of the Austra- . lian chess championship, Lajos Steiner secured the title. Second iplace was shared by Wade, Purdy, and Lazare. Wade and Purdy .met in the last round, and it was a homeric struggle. Both players, alive to the importance of the game t strained every nerve, but Purdy gradually improved his position and won.

The final scores were: .Steiner 12, Wade, Purdy, Lazare each 10$, Green 9, Koshnitsky BJ, Goldstein and Klass each 8, Crown and Watson each 7i, Shoebridge 6s, Salm SJ, Vaughan 5, Miller and Harris each 4}. McGrath 2.
