DOGS ON DISPLAY

KENNEL CLUB'S SHOW A full range of breeds in the dog fanciers' catalogue was represented in the annual show of the Otago Kennel Club, which opened in the Winter Show building this morning. The entries, including many from visiting exhibitors ranging from Canterbury to Southland, were the heaviest of the war-time fixtures, the judges adjudicating on 112 dogs, the figure for the show last year year being 90. A feature of the exhibition, which was officially opened by the Mayor (Mr D. C. Cameron), who spoke of his keen interest in the welfare of. animals, was the benching of springer and cocker spaniels, this section, the heaviest of the entries, reflecting the popularity of these breeds. In only a few cases were there entries in the various sections that precluded the awarding "by the judges of at least two placings, and the careful selection of the dogs for show purposes, together with the fact that there.were some very uniform types, resulted in the adjudicators having to introduce many of the finer points of judging. Consequently, their exacting task was responsible for only a few awards being announced in the morning. The results of the awards in the" best of Breeds sections was as follows : Toys_: Mrs G. G. Phillips's Sunrold .Reflection; Pekinese, Mrs C. L. Ridgens's Mantula of Montressor; Pekinese Vase for best Toy in show, Mrs Phillips's Sungold Reflection. Nonsporting Class—Bulldogs: Mr T. V. Cooke's All's Well Model of Marquis (only entry). Samoyeds; Mr and Mrs F. N. Woodhouse's Viking Thor (Australian). Rough-eoatpd Collies: Miss A. Stewart's Donald Dim of the Glen. Alsatians: Miss L. Grigg's Flash Vivienne of Cbingford. Great Dane: Mr W. W. Holme's Waitomo Wally. Mr J. R. Brown's Cup for the best non-sporting dog or bitch (other than toy): Mr T. V. Cooke's All's Well Model of Marquis. The cups and trophies awarded to the successful exhibitors are to be presented at a social this evening.
