MELBA SCHOLARSHIP
dominion elimination contest WON BY TIMARU SOPRANO (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 31. The Timaru soprano, Miss Ann Campbell, won the New Zealand elimination contest for the Nellie Melba Scholarship which concluded to-night at the Wellington competitions. With. Miss Shirley-Austin Turtle of Wellington, she sang in the final. , ■" The singing of both competitors was flawless," said the adjudicator, Mr John T.-Leech, of Dunedin. Both had all the requirements, but Miss Camphell had a bigger voice and a bettervoice. . v '
■"■" Miss Campbell will be granted a bursary to go to Melbourne as the New Zealand representative • in the Melba scholarship. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon.. P.
