FOUR MEN ASPHYXIATED

TRAGEDY ON WAR VESSEL MELBOURNE, August 20. Four members of the crew of H;M.S. Samarkand were killed to-day by fumes in the hold of their ship, at Geelong. Five other men were rushed to hospital suffering from the effects of the fumes. The ship’s mate , and three of his men were asphyxiated when they went, below to clear the ballast tank.
