FOURTH FIELD AMBULANCE
CLEAR THROUGH THE WAR ATTENDED MORE MEN THAN ANY BRITISH ARMY UNIT (N.Z.E.F. Official War Correspondent.) (Rec. noon.) LAKE TRASIMENO, July 14. The, disbanding of the Fourth. Field Ambulanee to-day marked the end of a unit formed in Burnham in 1939., It arrived in Egypt in February, _ 1940, and took part in all the division’s Operations from start to finish of the war. When the unit arrived in Egypt there were no field ambulances,, and it pioneered much of the present-day organisation, some of which ,was adopted by the British Army. Colonel R. A. Elliot, who was a member of the original unit, took the salute when the unit marched past on the final, parade. He said the Fourth had probably looked after more sick and wounded than any other unit of the British Army. Lieutenant-colonel Owen Johnson presided at the unit dinner this evening to mark the ending of a magnificent record of service. Officers and men have been posted to other medical units of the division.
