THIRD DIVISION

TRIBUTE BY PRIME MINISTER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 18: Among the many messages sent by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, to service leaders and others on the occasion of V.J.-Da.y were the following:— To Major-general H. E. Barrowelough—At this historic moment of the defeat of Japan we recall with pride and gratitude the special contribution made" by the Third New Zea-, land Division under your command. It was at a critical moment in the war in the Pacific that the Third Division took great laurels;• for itself and for New Zealand arms. For this great credit and, our thanks go fo you sincerely.” To Lieutenant-general Sir i Richard McCreery, formerly commander of the Eighth Army:—“ On the occasion of final victory against Japan and all our enemies the Government and people of New Zealand join in extending to you our congratulations on the part you ■ have played. We recall with pleasure and pride your association with the Second New Zealand Division.”
