DUNEDIN CENTRE MEETING OFFICIAL OPENING PROPOSAL ' \ A proposal tliat the oliieial opening of the new howling season should he held on the Otago green, and that the presidents of all the affiliated clubs, club delegates, and Dominion 'councillors. together with their wives, should he .invited, was made by the president (Mr W. W. Callender) at the monthly meeting of the Dunedin Dowling Centre on Saturday night. Mr Callender suggested that for the future the official oponing should be held on the green of the dub with which the .president of the centre was associated. This procedure, he said, would obviate the necessity for the president and other executive officers paying offic.ial visits on club opening days. “Under the present system,” said Mr Callender, “ the president and other executive officers visit as many club greens as possible on the opening days, but this is far from satisfactory, as in some cases it would be found that most of the players had gone home before we arrived.” He explained that the adoption of li.is suggestion would iiot interfere with the opening functions of individual clubs.
Mr K. Longworth said that clubs went to a lot of trouble for their opening days, and it afforded most of then] the only opportunity during the season to meet the president and other executive officers. Mr Longworth said that, with more petrol available, travelling would be facilitated.
The Chairman said he might be able to attend clubs’ openings, but, if the proposal was adopted, lie would not ask other members of the executive to accompany him.
