WEST HARBOUR AFFAIRS.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir. —“ Resident,” in his letter of Saturday, voices, I, think, the feeling of the vast majority of the people of this borough. At the convened meeting of residents a chairman, secretary, and committee, with power to add, were appointed, andi that to all intents, aud purposes is all that has transpired. It may be argued that V.E.-Day celebrations were rightly postponed owing to unfavourable weather conditions, etc., but the forewarning that V.J.-Day was at hand was foreshadowed by events, and the committee had ample time to arrange to celebrate on that day. That it was totally unprepared to do so reflects nothing but lack of interest on the part of those concerned with the running of that occasion. I am, however, glad to note that the local Rugby club, which, incidentally, has been the backbone of practically everything connected with borough efforts through the war years, is alive to the position, and has seen fit that at least the children of the district will be able to celebrate in some small way the termination of this terrible period from which we have emerged.— l am, etc., G.C.D: August 20
