HEALTH CAMPS
DISTRICT EXECUTIVE MEETS A meeting of the Dunedin District Health Camp Executive, held last evening, was presided over by the chairman, Mr J. J. Marlow. There were also present Miss D. Hart. Dr A. M. Douglas, the Rev. J. Chisholm, Messrs A. P. Greenfield, C. Parr. W. A. Williamson, and J. Doolan. The Chairman said he was pleased to report that the new chief postmaster, Mr E. J. Smith, had consented to act on the committee. Mr Smith’s experience of heilth camp work would be invaluable.
The Secretary reported that in the past 12 months 158 children from the Dunedin area had attended the Roxburgh health camp, while 100 more had been in residence at the Waikouaiti and Company Bay camps. This extension of the work had been a heavy drain on the executive’s funds, and it would be necessary to run a very successful stafnp campaign this season to enable it lo be maintained.
Discussion took place on the “ fol-low-up ” vork done after the children had left the camps, and it was agreed that after four years the permanent camp at Roxburgh had.proved the undoubted benefit received by children spending three months there. - The value of die work done was being more widely appreciated by parents and the public generally, and it was felt that, given good publicity, a good stamp campaign could be organised. In the past the country areas had not been organised to any extent, and the returns had been disappointing, but arrangements were made to communicate personally with interested people in the larger centres, with the aim of setting up local area committees which would sponsor the health stamp campaign.
