PEACE CELEBRATION
TO-MORROW’S ARRANGEMENTS TRAFFIC RESTRICTED Vehicular traffic will not be permitted in the main streets between the Stock Exchange and Frederick street after 1 p.m. to-morrow, so that there will be ample scope for those taking part in the procession. The assembly area for the procession will also be out of- bounds to motorists; this will be in Lower Rattray street, Crawford street, Vogel street, and Cumberland street between Lower Rattray street and Manor Place and Jervois street.. The various sections of the procession proceeding to the main assembly area will enter Crawford street from the southern end in addition to the intersections with Water street, Liverpool street, Jetty street, and Police street. These will be barricaded off from 1 p.m. until the procession leaves at 2.30 ip.m. PROCESSION ARRANGEMENTS. The marshal in charge of the procession will be Mr Hubert Brown, secretary of the Drivers’ Union, who will be assisted by representatives of the various organisations taking part in the procession. The organisers appeal to members of the public to join in the procession as it passes their particular vantage points, so that there will be a huge assembly at the Queen’s Gardens, where the Mayor and representatives of the various organisations taking part will address the gathering. The Boy Scouts’ Association will provide a guard around the Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial to prevent the monument being used by members of the public as a vantage point. The salute will be taken by the Mayor as the procession passes through the Octagon on its way north.
