" This morning I am able to announce that the War is won—finally and completely won,” the Prime Minister said when making the official New Zealand announcement of the end of hostilities. “ Japan has surrendered unconditionally—she has accepted the terms put forward by the United Slates on behalf of the Allied Powers.” Mr Fraser recalled that nearly six yqprs ago he had, on behalf of the Right Hon. M. J. Savage, announced that New Zealand was at war. They had been six years off anxiety and worry—dangerous, tragic years—but during that time New Zealand had unhesitatingly and proudly stood by tlje side of the Mother Country to fight for world freedom, democracy, and international justice.
