NEW ZEALAND CRISIS! RETURNED MEN SERIOUSLY AFFECTED BY HOUSING SHORTAGE REHABILITATION CIVIC LEAGUE NEGOTIATIONS SUCCESSFUL. GOVERNMENT TO AMEND FAIR RENTS ACT. Householders are urged to give consideration to the making available of surplus accommodation in their homes to returned servicemen. The Government has promised legislation granting exemption from requirements of the Fair Rents Act to such private householders as assist. It will thus be possible to arrange tenancy for a- definitely specified period or to terminate an undesirable tenancy at will. The need is desperate—our homes have been spared by the sacrifices of. our soldiers, sailors, and airmen—New Zealand must not now deny them a' roof over their heads pending the erection of permanent homes. As soon as legislation is completed details of this scheme will be. made public, and a further appeal will be made throughout New Zealand by the Rehabilitation Civic League. Present address: Ellis and Burnand Buildings, Hamilton.—[Advt,]
