[By Watcher.] Acceptances for the first day of the • Dunedin Jockey Club's meeting will close at 5 p.m. to-day. The Dunedin, Auckland, and Wanganui Clubs will hold the first days cf their meetings on Saturday. The Ashburton Trotting Club's meeting will be held on Monday. Forest Gien broke down dunig the running of the Te Rapa Steeplechase. The use of the training tracks at Trentham is restricted at present. Evidently bad weather conditions are fairly general. J. Garth will ride Voltaire, Master Baron, Transmitter, and Sheer at the Wanganui meeting, A. Midwood Leighon's Glory, K. Ford Lord Darnley, and N. Vaughan Star Peer and Susan Lee. True Range won the Otago Steeplechase last year with 9.13, and has 11.2 this year. He has not raced this season. Mr W. R. Russell, handicapper to the Dunedin Jockey Club, was present at the South Canterbury meeting. H. B. Lorigan is schooling Tho Monarch and Voltaire over hurdles. The Monarch may make his debut as a jumper at the Wanganui meeting. Joy Rosa is slow on her feet, and as she drew the rails in her race at Timaru was soon in a hopeless position. The Kingsdown Handicap at Timaru was for apprentice riders only, and one or two of the runners were more than a handful for the lads.
Test Pilot disappointed his owner by his display in the Steeplechase at Timaru, and it is unlikely that he will be raced at Wingatui. 'Because of a family bereavement. Tamerlane and Prince Leighon were not saddled up at the South Canterbury meeting. The former Riccarton horseman, Jl. Beale, is back in the saddle again, and will be riding at the winter meetings. F. J. Smith has Belhall also at the Ashburton meeting/. In her last five starts she has scored three firsts and a third. The continued inclement weather is interfering with the final preparations for the Dunedin meeting- It will probably not be until Thursday or Friday that track proceedings wdl be extended.
J. W. Pankhurst, F. J. Boyle, M. J. Wadley, J. Thistleton, W. E. Hazlett. J. Cochrane, W. Rainbow, and J. Rowlands are among the first of the visiting trainers to arrive at Wingatui with their teams.
J. Bagby will ride Constitution in the Cornwall Handicap at the Auckland winter meeting. Constitution has had one success this season, in the Foley Memorial Handicap at Ellerslie, on April 7. Though he failed to reach a place m the President's Handicap at Te Rapa, he remains one of the favourites for the Cornwall Handicap. G. Cameron will ride Cambria in the Cornwall Handicap. M. Coon will be on Expellant in the Great Northern Hurdles and Sir Waimai in the Great Northern Steeplechase. F. Hain will ride Good Armour and Waiwainui in the same races.
Following a mulish display which culminated in his taking no ipaii in the hurdle race at the Marton meeting, Gallant Son has been added to the schooling list. Gallant Son is a five-year-old gelding by Hunting Song from Arohamai. owned by Mr C. W. Merrylees and trained at Woodville by A. J. Larkin. Gay Hussar, who was removed from the schooling list some weeks ago, has been posted to the list again as the result of misbehaviour at the Egniont meeting. Gay Hussar is an aged gelding by Light Brigade from Carrah, raced by Mesdames R< K. King and !R. W. A. Lewis, Eltham. The following are some of the horses who have arrived at Wingatui for the Dunedin meeting:—True Range. Hollyford, Depth Charge, Sumra. Royal Writ, Royal Flight, Alpine. Royal Chorus, Great Coon, Ring Chief, Bright Feather, Minorn, Weld Cona, Rawhamai, Air Chief, Bowmore, Green Note, Hunting Charm, Boolamskee, Jslay Downs, Palatable, Collection, Filibeg, Maharajah, Minority, Shadow Boy, Some Coon, and Boloyna.
