JAPANESE SAVAGERY
TERRORISTIC PATROLS ACTIVE (Rec. noon.) NEW YORK, May 27. Terroristic patrols of Japanese troopa roam the mountains of northern Okinawa trying to incite the natives to acts of sabotage, and beheading theni if they refuse, says the Associated Press Okinawa correspondent. The patrols hide in caves in daylight and emerge at night. So far as least 40 Okinawans have been beheaded, and many, including women and children, have been wounded.
AMERICAN WOUNDED ALL OUT OF EUROPE BY JULY 'lO (llec. 10.40 a.m.) RUGBY, May 27. Of the 1,375,000 United States soldiers and sailors sent to hospital in the European theatre of operations from the beginning of the war until now fewer than 100,000 are in hospital to-day. By July 10 practically all patients will" be restored to duty in the theatre or returned to the United States. This was disclosed to-day by Major-general Howley, chief surgeon United States forces throughout the European campaign. About one-fourth of all hospital patients were battle casualties, said the general.
