MINUS GAS
AUCKLAND'S PLIGHT NO IMMEDIATE SIGN OF RELIEF (P.A.) AUCKLAND. May 27. The Auckland Gas Company's coal supply will be exhausted tomorrow afternoon, and the present indications are that there will be no gas after to-morrow night. There are no signs of immediate relief, and for several davs at least Auckland is likely to be completely out of gas. Gas has been rationed during the last three days to eke out the supply as far as possible, and considerable difficulty has been experienced by housewives, hospitals, restaurants, and hotels. In meal-hour periods to-day there was a supply of gas of indifferent quality. The next boat expected from the West Coast is the Kiwitea. Owing to the stormy conditions, the vessel is not expected to leave Grey mouth within the next three-days..' The general manager of the company, Mr R. Worley, said the position was worse than ever. On other occasions something had occurred just in time to prevent the complete cessation of the supply, but this time there appeared to be no hope at all.
