BORNEO INVADED
AUSTRALIAN TROOPS TAKE PART MEMBERS OF FAMOUS MIDDLE EAST DIVISION (Rec. noon.) CANBERRA, May 2. . Australian troops are taking part in the invasion of Borneo. The acting Prime Minister, Mr Chifley, announced that the troops are members of the famous division which served in the Middle East. Further details of the operation, he said, would be issued from General MacArthur's headquarters. " \llied forces late last night invaded the east coast of Borneo, near Tarakan,'' reports Tokio radio. "The Japanese garrison engaged in fierce combat with the enemy forces, winch landed under cover of an offshore bombardment. A previous landing attempt at noon yesterday was repulsed.
