CORPORATION TRANSPORT RETIREMENTS

At a recent gathering of corporation transport men held in the tramways" social room,- a farewell evening was given to, 16. employees retiring from the Transport Department. Mir A. Webster, representing the. Presentation Society, occupied the chair, and he welcomed the attendance of the. Mavor (Mr D. C. Cameron), Crs McCrae and McMillan. Witty and interesting addresses were made to those present bv Mr D. C. Cameron, Cr McCrae, Mr W. B. Richards (manager), and Mr J, A. Todd (traffic manager); while Mr J. McTigue spoke on behalf of the Officials' Union, Mr G. Silver for the Tramways Union, Mr G. Hill for the» Benefit Society, and Mr A. Campbell for the sporting clubs. .. The retiring men were Mr James Clark, 18 years at Roslyn and 24 .years in the city department; Mr W. Judd (chief revenue clerk), 40 years' service; motormen H. Wilson,. 40 years; A. Mills, 39 years; J. Bunting, "39 years; W. Hope, 37 years; J. Warwood, 35 vears; C. Chammen, 27 years; and L. 6'Shea, seven years. Others were Busman J. Downes, 17 years; Driver D. Morrison, 24 years; Mechanic A. Munro, 20 years; Trackman A McGlasfian, seven years; J. White, Kaikorai; A. Steel, Roslyn, and E. Quarterman, city. The individual presentations were made by Cr McCrae and Mr J. Todd, and the recipients suitably replied. Social club refreshments were in the capable hands of Mr R. Doig, and the transport orchestra, under" the baton of Mr J. Burke, rendered excellent musical items. Splendid entertainment' was given (and in each case encored) hv Mr James Swan, tenor; Mr H. E. 'Lyon, baritone; Mr James Paterson, comedian; Messrs Garry and Galley, instrumentalists; Mr S. Wells, piano soloist; and Mr N. Fairclotb, Italian monologue.
