The Minister of Supply, Hon D. G. Sullivan, in a statement in Wellington last night, said it would not be correct to say that domestic radio production would definitely recommence in July or August. The existing war contracts would keep the industry occupied until at least September, and, in the event of further war contracts being received, any possibility of reconversion would be still further postponed. The Taieri Poultry Society held the monthly meeting under the chairmanship of Mr J. Friend (president). Many matters in connection with the show to be held in June were advanced a stage. The schedule was revised, and a long list of special prizes added. Four of these—the gift of the chairman—were added to the produce section. -Inquiries for schedules indicated an early interest in the annual fixture. National war savings quotas were attained by 237 towns, 11 more than in the preceding week. All but one of the principal centres recorded success, while in 17 of the 19 postal districts the full district quota was reached. An outstanding achievement has been recorded at Mangaweka in the Wanganui district, whero the investments since April 1 already exceeded the full annual quota. The extont of the shortage of motor oar tyres and tubes at present would appear to be indicated by the decision of the oil fuel controller in Dunedin involving an application by a returned serviceman for tyres for a motor car he purchased to use in his window-cleaning business. Investigations made following correspondence published _ in the ' Star' on Monday about his inability to secure the necessary permit for two now tyres reveal that the purpose for which this returned serviceman's vehicleis used is not included; in the priority list as approved by War Cabinet, and that the permit granted him in March for two other tyres was granted solely as a border-line case in order to assist the applicant. Giving this information, the acting district oil fuel controller adds that the shortage of stocks of tubes and tyres in the Dominion has become worse since the permit to this particular applicant was issued, and a further authority for two more tyres cannot, therefore, bo approved. A Wellington Association message states that the appeal by John Hogan against direction by the Man-power Department to work at the Petone Woollen Mills has been dismissed, and he has been directed to commence work on Monday, May 7.

Bales of wool formed an effective road block when they toppled from a lorry in the vicinity of the Leviathan Hotel early this afternoon, and incidentally, they provided a problem as to how they could be placed back without mechanical aid on to the_ heavilyloaded vehicle. There were nine bales scattered on the road, and several had to be removed from the tram tracks.
