SERVICEMEN ENTERTAINED

FUNCTION AT ST. HILDA There was an attendance of about 350 people in the Coronation Hall, St. Kilda, last evening, when a " welcome home " social was extended to 30 men and women from the borough who had recently returned from active service. The function was presided over by the Mayor of St Kilda, Mr N. D Anderson, who welcomed the guests on behalf of the citizens of the borough and rjaid a tribute to their work in the Empire's cause. Other speakers were Mr J J. Marlow (on behalf of the Mayor of Dunedm), the Rev. J. Watson (on behalf of the ministers of the borough), Mr H. P. Jefcoate (president of the Dunedin U.S.A.). and the Mayor of Mosgiel, Mr W. P. Hartstonge. Major R Orr replied on behalf of the guests of honour. 1 terns were rendered during the evening by the St. Kilda Municipal Band and by Bandsman Ralph Francis, Miss J. Mclnnes, Miss K. Nuttery, Miss V. McCracken, Mr J. Paterson, Mr J. Devereux, and Mr S. Lougworth. D. Burke was the accompanist. The latter ' part of the evening was taken up with dancing. Supper was served bv a committee of ladies.
