INFORMAL WELCOME TO DUNEDIN Bishop Jb\ Houghton, general director of the China Inland Mission, was accorded a welcome to Dunedin by the Mayor (Mr D. C. Cameron) and representatives of the clergy at an informal reception in the mayoral rooms this morning. The Rev. G. M. Slade represented the Council of Christian Churches, while other speakers include/] Bishop Fitehett and the Rev. G. H. McNeur. Major J. K. Templer, C.F., who recently returned after service with the New Zealand Division in Italy, was also welcomed. Since his arrival in Dunedin Bishop and Mrs Houghton have addressed gatherings interested in the work of the mission in China. Bishop Houghton occupied the pulpit of First Church on Sundav morning, and preached at St. Paul's Cathedral in the evening, while on Sunday afternoon lie addressed a gathering of Chinese residents of Dunedin and adjacent districts. Mrs Houghton spoke to approximately 900 women at a gathering in First Church yesterday afternoon sponsored by the women's- committee of the National Council of Churches, while last night the bishop addressed a meeting at the University of'Otago organised by the Students'" Evangelical Union. This evening Bishop Houghton will address a public meeting in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on ' China To-day and To-morrow.'
