WHISKY STOCKS

LENGTHY RATIONING LIKELY ; Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright (Rec. 8 a.m.) LONDON, April 30. Whisky is likely to be rationed for several years while newly-distilled 'stocks mature. A survey of the wine and spirit trade shows that the wartime productions of Scotch whisky had not equalled one year's production in normal times, and, of 150,000,000 gallons in bond before the war, more than half was exported to foreign countries to provide money for the purchase of war materials.

Whisky jumped from a lowly place among British pre-war exports to one of the most important last year. Every effort will be made to supply good foreign customers, even at the expense of the Empire, as part of a policy to provide England with funds abroad. The present stocks are about sufficient to follow that policy for three years.
