POLITICAL SEQUEL POPULAR MOVEMENT IN NORTH DECONTROL OF ITALY ABOLITION OF MONARCHY DEMANDED (Rec. 11.30 a.m.). LONDON, April 30. Renter's Koine correspondent .says that Togliati (Communist leader), in a broadcast demanded an immediate and profound transformation following the liberation of the north, and not merely a patching up of the Italian Government. The correspondent added that Italian political parties are now going into conclave, and political Italy is waiting to see whether Togliati can guide and control the great popular movement in the north.
A report from the north says the celebrations for the liberation of Northern Italy at the Piazza Santi Apostili developed into a popular demonstration for the immediate abolition of the monarchy, and decontrol of Italy by the Allies.
The Ministry of Information at Rome, reporting on the situation resulting from the uprisings in Northern Italy, says all the power stations in the Maira and Varaita Valleys were saved by the partisans. Three hundred of the enemy are still in Turin, with larger forces on the outskirts. General Eberling surrendered to the partisans at Bergamo. The town is quiet and orderly, and nothing has been damaged except the airfields. The Germans at Mantua surrendered, and the, partisans remained in control- of the town until the Allies arrived. All installations in the large areas of Austa and Liguria were saved. The patriots control the large area between Venice and the Po River.
