OVER-ALL INCREASE IN PRODUCTION

(Rec. 12.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 27. The expansion of coal production from Australian open cut mines is revealed by comparative figures released by the Commonwealth Coal Commissioner, Mr Norman Mighell. The output from this source in the first quarter of the year" was 124,500 tons compared with 25,700 the same period last year. The overall coal production for .the.quarter increased by 164,800 tons compared with the.same period last year.' Thus almost 100,000 tons of the increase cable from open cut workings. The total production for the first quarter of 1945 was 2,768,000 ton 3 compared with 2,603,000 tons for the first quarter of last year.
