Th'e monthly ,meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held on Thursday afternoon, and was attended, by Messrs J. Young (president), in the chair, S. P. Cameron, C. M. Bruce, W. S. Thomson. J. B. Blair, D. B. Craighead, R. T. Kirk, W. Lee, W. H. Elliott, J. P. Aubrey, J. R. Fairbairn, John Hellyer, G Masters, C. T. McCallum. R. Gawn, A. C. Begg, John Mee, J. A. Miller, and.R. D. Stewart. Reference was made by the chairman to the deaths of Mr H. M. Driver, an honorary life member, who had given long and valuable service to the society, Mrs T. D. Dalziel, who had been a constant exhibitor and judgo for many years,-; and Mr D. Mathewson, a young member, who had been killed on active service. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to their memory. On the recommendation •of the Finance' 1 -Committee, accounts amounting to £355 12s 9d were passed for payment, the bank balance being in credit £966 6s_ 6d and outstanding cheques amounting to £ls 8s 3d. It was decided to contribute £SOO to the War Loan with a deposit in the National Savings Account. The annual balance sheet was approved for submission to' the anuual meeting on June 1. .

The statement of receipts and expenditure for the rani fair was approved, and suggestions for alterations of the rules under which the. fair is conducted were referred to the incoming committee for considertaion. With minor alterations, it was agreed to extend the term of the agreement entered into with the Automobile Association (Otago) in 1939 regarding the Tahuna motor camp for a further period of five years. The Grounds and _ Building Committee reported having met army officials and discussed restoration work at Tahuna Park before its final vacation by the army. It was reported that a tender had been submitted for the patriotic hut at Tahuna. Tenders had closed on Saturday last, and the action of the committee was approved. The replacement of the loose boxes destroyed by fire was progressing satisfactorily, and these would be ready for stabling horses coming to the Forbury Park trotting meeting on May 5. Eleven new members were elected, and Mr W, H. Elliott was congratulated by the chairman on having obtained seven of these. Jt was decided to ask .the Prime Minister officially to open the Winter Show, on Friday, June 1. and if he was not available the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Roberts) would be asked to take his place. Entries in the factory cheese and. butter sections already to hand were— Cheese 152, and butter 39, which compared very favourably with 108 and 24 respectively last year. It was .noted that nominations for officers and membership of the committee for the ensuing year would close with the secretary on May 25.
