AUCTION AT BURHSIDE

HEAVY FAT CATTLE ENTRY

There being no sale next Wednesday (Anzac Day), a double, entry of stock was auctioned to-day at Burnside. A feature of the sale was the heavy entry of fat cattle, numbering approximately 540. .The.yarding .was mostly made up of medium*-and light descriptions, and a keen inquiry for the better sorts resulted in last week's prices being maintained. Other classes in over-supply., were easier by 2Gs a head. One consignment.of extra choice Shorthorn-Red Poll cross cattle was pffered on'behalf of J. S. Mcßride, of Temuka, and they fetched from £2O 7s 6d to £23 2s 6d—an average of £2l 12s 6d. Extra choice bullocks realised up to £23 2s 6d; prime, £lB 2s 6d to £2O 17s 6d: medium, £ls 17s 6d to £l7 2s'6d; and light from £l4 2s 6d. Extra prime heifers to £l3 12s 6d; prime £9 12s Gd to £lO 12s.Cd; medium. £8 2s 6d to £8 17s Gd; and light from £6 17s 6d. Extra prime cows, to £l2 2s Gd; primo, £9 2s Gd to £lO 7s Gd; medium. £7 17s Gd to £8 7s Gd; and light from £6 7s 6d. The entry of fat lambs was a small one. and all classes experienced keen competition. Extra prime lambs auctioned up to 3Se Gd; prime 29s to 335; medium, 2Cs to 27s 6d; and light from 245.

There was a larger entry than last week of baconers, and values for these also showed an increase on the two previous sales. Best baconers fetched up to £7 lGs; prime, ■ £6 10s to £7 ss; medium, £5 4s to £5 12s; and light from £4 14s.

There was a fairly large entry of fat sheep, including a large number, of medium quality ewes, and it appeared by the limited entry of prime quality sheep that the prices were attuned recent auctions at Burnside. The quotations in the sheep section, and also for store cattle, were not available at 2.30 this afternoon because of the double sale.
