BORDEAUX POCKET
FRENGH ENTER ROYAN HEAVY NAVAL ASSAULT LONDON, April 16. In the new offensive in the Bordeaux pocket General le Clerc's Second French Armoured Division has entered Royan, the German fortress covering the mouth of the Gironde from the north.
The Combined Press correspondent on board Admiral Rue's flagship says: " The revived French fleet set a 12mile stretch of the German-held French coast ablaze.in support of the land and air attacks against German batteries covering the mouth of the Gironde. Our big guns in the first half-hour knocked out three German batteries. The enemj was able to put up only desultory ana ineffective coun-ter-fire during the seven-hour oombardment."
