Personal.—Prior to leaving for duty with the Navy, Ordinary Seaman Cliff Higgle was the recipient of a Testament from Toko. Prebyterian Church and a gift from the residents of (Moneyraore-Clarksville, tho Rev. S. T. Nicho'lls and Mr A. B. Stewart making the presentations.—Miss Maisie Hal!, who has been on the Balclutha telephone exchange for the'"past five years and has been transferred as a supervisor to Waimate, was the recipient'of & gift from her colleagues,; the' presentation being made by Mr A.'R. Watson, postmaster.—At the annual-meet-ing of Milton Fire Boarder Mr iC. W. Keinan was re-elected chairman for a further term. i.
.R,;S.A.—rThe ~ eighteenth Manual meeting- of Milton-Bruce Sub-associ& tion on Saturday nighfewas presided over by Mr G. H. Clark ',' and the attendance was the largest for many years, a number of Second N.Z.E.F. men being present. Members stood in silence as'a tribute '', to iUe memory\of President Roosevelt. The balance sheet showed the finances to be in a satisfactory state. The election of officers resulted:—President, Mr J. W. Keogh; senior. vice-president, Mr C. Keppel; junior, Mr L. G. North; treasurer, Mr J. B. Gray; secretary, Mr A. J, Currie; auditor, Mr L. W. Potter: committee—Messrs G. H» Clark, S. T. Corbett, H. J. Hamilton, H. .1. Adam, W. J. Pringle, L. M. Scott. C. W. Keinan. Four of the committee are members of the Second N.Z.E.F. Votes of thanks were accorded the following members of the committee, who did not seek re-election after lengthy service:—Messrs James McGnigan (15 years), R. G. Culleu (13 years), J. McGuire (11 years), and R. Price (six years); also. to Mr L. 01. Scott, who Sad been treasurer for some years. A proposal to adopt the postal ballot system of electing the Executive Committee was defeated in favour of the present method of election at the annual meeting. The committee was empowered to make /arrangements to,organise an appeal for funds to erect an R.S.A. memorial hall in Milton. A resolution was : also carried expressing dissatisfaction with the procedure adopted, and with some of the decisions at the sittings of the Armed Forces Appeal Board in Milton, and asking the Hon. A. McLagan to havo an inquiry made into what lias become a most unsatisfactory position. Golf.—There was an excellent attendance of members present at the opening of the Balclutha golf links on Saturday. The links were in very good order and added much to the enjoyment of the afternoon's play, as did tho improvement in the weather. The season was officially opened by the president, Mr R. R. Grigor. "Feeling reference was made to the loss sustained through the death of Mr 0. R. Throp, and members stood in silence as a mark of respect. The President commended the club on raising the sum of £55 for patriotic purposes last year. A mixed fours Stableford bogey match over 10 holes was proceeded with. A tie resulted between Mr Thompson and Mrs Fraser and Mr and Miss Harper, each with 14 points. In the play-off, Mr Thompson and partner we're the successful pair.
