ECONOMIST ON LOAN

TO WORK FOR UNRRA (P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 20. Leave of absence from the public service has been granted to Dr W. B. Sutch, advisory economist to the Ministry of Supply, who has been lent to the Far Eastern division of Unrra, with headquarters in Australia. Dr Sutch, who left Auckland for Sydney yesterday, will be director of supply and requirements for the South-west Pacific area, an appointment temporarily held by Dr W. A. Chudson, who was recently in New Zealand on his way batik to the United States. Dr Sutch .will be concerned with the procurement of supplies for Unrra in Europe, the East, or elsewhere so long as they are available in an area which includes Burma, the Netherlands East Tndies. liido-Chirui. Malaya, the Philippines, and the Pacific Islands generally, as well as Australia and New Zealand. The co-ordination and assessment of the relief requirements in the same area will also be his responsibility. Dr Sutch is the workers' representative on the Railways Tribunal, and it is expected that this appointment will involve his resignation from the tribunal.
