CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF
LADIES' TOURNAMENT AT ST. CLAIR The Dunedin ladies' golf championships were advanced a further stage this morning with the playing of the first rounds of the senior and junior titles on the St. Clair course, which was again in first-class order, while the troublesome wind that prevailed yesterday had dropped to a breeze that did not prove a handicap to the players. The surprise of the senior event was the defeat of Mrs Lawless by Mrs McCarthy, the St. Clair veteran, who had a clear-cut win after reproducing some of the form that gave her the Otago title several years ago. Both ladies gave a good performance, but the Otago player's short game was not as accurate as usual. In the junior championship event the closest match of the morning was provided between Mrs Homan and Mrs Boyd, the game going to the nineteenth before a decision was reached in the lather's favour. Those players who did not qualify in the two championship rounds yesterday took part in consolation events. Results:— —Senior Championship.—
