YEARLING SALES
RECORD AVERAGE AND AGGREGATE TOP PRICE 3,000 GUINEAS (Rec. 2 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 6. ' The highest average in the history ot the Melbourne yearling sales was obtained at the first dav's selling, when 77 yearlings sold for 69,595 guineas, an average of 904 guineas. The aggregate was also a record. In the offering of 80 yearlings only three failed to find buyers and only 22 failed to reach 500 guineas. On the first day at the 1944 sales (when the previous record was made) 78 yearlings sold for 50,395 guineas, an average of £646 guineas. This year 30 yearlings realised 1.000 guineas or more, including six over 2,000 guineas and-one at 3,000. The top price for the day was 3.000 guineas, paid for a Lawmaker —Romanic colt from the Kismet Park stud. Other high prices were: A colt by Hellesipon—Comedy Wind, 2.100 guineas; a colt bv Enfield—Dawn, 2.200; a filly by Enfield—Little Sister, 2.800;. a colt by Lawmaker—Joanna, 2,000; a colt by Lawmaker —Jennifer, 2,500.
