Forty-se.ven transport planes from an altitude of 100 feet parachuted 3,3001 b of mortar shells on the southern airstrip for the use of American troops, says the United Press correspondent on Iwojima. The Japanese opened up with rockets and mortars when the planes appeared, but the cargo was safely dropped, the marines quickly taking delivery.
