—Ministerial.— The Minister of Agriculture (tho Hon. B. Roberts) with his private sec-. retary (Mr R. D. Steel), arrived in Dunedin yesterday afternoon. They left for Balclutha this morning, and will return to-morrow. The Minister of Works (the Hon. R. \ Seraple),' accompanied by his private secretary (Mr A. K. Doyle) left for South Canterbury this morning on their wav to Christchurch. —Air Passengers.— Passengers f or'lnvercargill yesterday were Mr F. Hitchens, Miss B. L. Barth, Mr H. Rout, Mr M. Thomson, Mr A. Emslie, Mr N. A. Espie, Corporal R. Macgregbr, Mrs B. Thomson and infant, Mr T. . Collins. Passengers for the north this morning were Miss V. B. Burrill, Mr A. S. Bitossi (for Christchurch), Dr and Mrs T. Derrick, Mrs A. Price, Mr L. Dunn, Mr D. Langley, Mr Bradshaw (for Wellington), Mr W. N. Satterthwaite, Mrs H. L. Joyce and infant (for Auckland). Mr Justice Blair,. chairman, and members of the Prisons- Board, who ' have been in Invercargill, were passengers by the through express this morning. Mr D. H. Steen, Auckland, has been elected president of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, and Mr C. H. Parkins, Christchurch, vice-president. Mr W. A. Hadlee has been appointed secretary of the Dunedin branch of the D.I.C. and will take up his duties early in April. Mr Hadlee is the well-known Canterbury cricket captain and sole selector, and a brilliant member of New Zealand teams on several occasions. He represented Canterbury at Rugby in 1938, has been a prominent hockey player, and for * long period was a promising track athlete. After an outstanding career in the field of crime investigation and as an administrator, Superintendent R. R. J.. Ward, who has been in charge of the Auckland police district. since late in 1941, will retire on May 20. He has been a member of the police force since 1903. and has held a number of positions in Auckland. The appointment of a successor has not yet been announced. Mr and (Mrs F. W. Oakden, of St. Clair, have received a broadcast _ message picked up in West Australia on February 18, from their son, Flightlieutenant F. W. J. Oakden, who is a prisoner of war in Camp " Z," Java. The mesasge states that Flighfc-lieuten-and Oakden is in good health and has received letters from New Zealand, and also that ' Pilot-officer Valentine, of; Kew, and another New Zealand airman, whose name unfortunately could not be picked up, are there with him. Mr Jf. A. Tarrant, claims clerk aii the Dunedin branch of the Union Steam Ship Company, has received notice of his promotion to Auckland. He will leave, early next week. The Zionist Council of New Zealand has received cabled advice of the death' in Jerusalem, on February 9, of Dr Henrietta Szold, an outstanding figure in the renaissance of the Jewish people in Palestine, at the age of 84. She / died in the Hadassah University Hospi« ' tal on Mount Scopus. The resignation of Mr W. N. Satterthwaite, one of the original member! of the Dunedin Services' As-< sociation choir, was received with regret at the annual meeting last night* Motions, of sympathy..-were also.passed with the relatives of the late Colonel Moir and Mr W. W. Strang.
