ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY

MEETING OF OTAGO COUNCIL The first meeting of the year of the council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was hold last night, when the president (Mr. A. Dighy Smith) occupied the chair. To assist the Otago Anglers' Association in clearing channels in the roods edging Tomahawk Lagoon a grant of £5 was made. Angling in Otago waters had been good over the holidays, reported the chairman, and satisfactory baskets were, still being reported by correspondents.' A party from Roxburgh had taken 28 fish, while another party had caught 110 trout from Lake Onslow, the heaviest' fish weighing 2Jib arid, the smallest measuring lliu. Two anglers on the Poolburn Dam had caught 23 fish, illp to 3Jlb. Members also quoted reports of conditions on the Lindis, Lake Mahinerangi, and the outlet to Lake Hawea. OPEN GAME SEASON. Recommendations for the open game season were submitted as follows by the Game Committee:—Californian quail, May sto July 31; Mallard duck, May 5-27; chukor, May 5-July 31; cock pheasants, June 2-July. 3; 'Canadian goose, May 5-May 27. Native game: Grey duck, May 5-27; pukeko, May 5-July 31; spoonbill duck, May 5-27; black swan, May _ 5-27 (closed season in county of Mauiototo) paradise duck, May 5-27. Bag limit .recommendations included a restriction to 20 a day of mallard duck, chukor, cock pheasants, grey duck, spoonbill duck, and paj-adise duck. The daily- bag limits weve recommended as follows:—Californian quail 30, mallard cluck 12, chukor 10, mallard, grey, spoonbill, and paradise ducks 15 in ail, cock pheasants 2, and paradise duck, 5 a day and 25 for the season.—The report was adopted, the recommendations to be forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs.
