MORNINGTON AMENITIES
RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION MEETS
At the monthly executive meeting of the Mornington District Ratepayers and HouseAssociation, held on Saturday night, Mr M. Haig (vice-president) occupied the chair. There were present—Messrs A Ibbotson, G. Ferens,. W. G. Sanders, A. Torrance. A. WaJker, J. T. Ramsay, and the secretary, Mr F. J.. Webb. Satisfaction was expressed regarding the erection of an additional light in Mornington road. ;, _ A letter received from the-Railway Department stated that the necessary attention had been given to the clearing of gorse and broom from the reserve between the Clyde Hill settlement and the railway line. The department pointed out, however, that a number of adjoining sections had not been cleared, so it was agreed to refer the matter to the City Council. In connection with a request made previously for the continuation of the kerbing and channelling from Newport street to Ashley street, it was agreed to ask the
Works Committee to receive representatives from the association to discuss the matter. it was agreed to notify the City Council that the following maintenance work required attention:—The pathway from Forfar street down to the Caversham Station required a layer of screenings; the channelling needed clearing out, and grass required cutting back: a Ikyer of screenings .was needed on a portion of Bernard street; and the footway in Mailer street at the railing required- filling in where it had broken away. It was also decided to ask the council to continue' the laying of screenings on the footway in Forfar street from where the work was left «ff recently down to Leckhampton court. Regarding the proposal for a community centre in Mornington, it was. agreed f'n.t the associatidn should convene, a. meeting towards the end of February, when u-pi<.-sentatives from the various clubs, societies, and other organisations in the Mornington district would be invited to attend to discuss the niattcr fully.
