APPEALS AGAINST DIRECTION Three appeals against direction to employment at the Seacliff Mental Hospital were heard by the Industrial Manpower Appeal Committee this morning. Mr W. .). Mac Nicol, who appeared for the man-power officer, said that there were 32 vacancies for nurses at Seacliff. The decisions were reserved.

Miss Jane Campbell (Mr W. M(-Alevey), an agent of the T. and (2. Life Society, appealed against direction on the grounds of undue hardship. Appeals by the Perpetual Trustees Estate and Agency Company Ltd., and st»lf. were made for Miss Jean Hamilton Dippie, a clerk.—Details of Miss Dippie's duties were given by Mr D. J. Russell. Dunedin manager of the Perpetual Trustees, who estimated that the company controlled capital and trust funds amounting to about £10.000.000. —Miss Dippie objected to direction on medical grounds. Arthur Barnett Ltd. (Mr 1. B. Stevenson) and Mr C. T. Mackay, appealed against the direction of Miss Marjorie Joan Madkay, a commercial artist and signwrit'^r.—Six directions of employees had been effected since tJie shop had reoipened after the holidays, said Mr Jeffrey M. Barnett.- Miss Mackay was the only trained signwriter employed, and her duties had increased as the result of the Price Tribunal's instruction that all articles displayed for sale must be ticketed.—Evidence concerning his daughter's health was given by Mr C. T. Madkay.
