PRIVATE TOM MOCKFORD, a 66-year-old Dunedin veteran, who was described in a recent cable message as " probably the oldest ranker in the British Empire." He served with the Mounted Rifles in the Boer War, while, giving his age as 38, he left New \ Zealand in 1940 with the Fourth Reinforcements. Repatriated recently, he is expected to arrive in Dunedin shortly.
