MEETING OF THE BOARD The meeting of the Otago Harbour 'Board held last night was attended by Messrs R. S. /.Thompson (chairman), W. Begg, A. L. S. Cassie, W. R. Clarke, P. G. Connolly, M.P., J. H. Duncan, J. G. Jeft'ery. J. W. Munro, M.P., J. Preston, A. Smith, F. E. Tyson, iR. Walls. H. S. Watson, and G. V. Booth. A donation of £2 2s was granted to the Otago branch of the Navy League and one of £5 to the New Zealand Institute of the Blind. The Secretary of the Mariue Department wrote advising that the restriction on the board's leasing powers had been removed by section 30 of this Statues Amendment Act. 1944.—The Chairman said that this meant that the board could now grant a lease with a perpetual right of renewal.—The meeting expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the representations made, and passed a vote of thanks to Messrs Connolly and Munro for their efforts in the matter. The Clyde Engineering Company Ltd. wrote advising that its London principals had been successful in securing the release of a Coles crane for the board, and that shipment had been arranged for early in February.— Noted. The treasurer (Mr J. Renton) submitted a statement showing that the total revenue for December had been £15,524, and for the October-December quarter £34,337, as compared with £15,791 and £44,494 respectively for the same periods in 1943. The expenditure had been £14.447 for December and £44,682 for the quarter, as against £13,109 and £42,663 the previous year. The bank balance of the hoard's gene- i ral account at January 23 was £3.324 debit. The Norwegian Shipping and Trade Mission, expressed thanks for the excellent manner in which the board had always assisted and co-operated in matters pertaining to Norwegian shipping, and intimated that, when practicable, it would have no hesitation in sending a vessel to Port Chalmers for repairs.—Noted.
