INVERCARGILL HOSPITALS

SOME SCARLET FEVER CASES IN WARDS

(P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 27. Because of an outbreak of scarlet fever in the wards, the Southland Hospital at Kew and the Queen Victoria Hospital in Dee street have been closed to all visitors until further notice. The admission of patients will be confined to urgent surgical cases. The district medical officer of health, Dr K. J. H. Davies, said to-day that| there had been a few eases in the wards. There would naturally be a fairly large percentage of " carriers " ninoiig the visitors to the hospitals, and these might communicate the dise-ase to patients. Persons whose resistance was undermined by illness were more liable to contract scarlet fever and were also liable to ■be more seriously affected.
