RUSSIA'S NATIONAL DAY

DOMINION TRIBUTE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 6. The following is a copy of a telegram sent by the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) to Marshal' Stalin on the occasion of Soviet National Day:— "On your National Day all New Zealanders , recall the tremendous contribution which the Soviet people have made in this war against aggression and tyranny. As a small country we know that freedom must be world wide and that it may be won or lost thousands of miles from uor own shores. It is for that reason that we have sent our men to fight in areas far distant from our own shores. and, above all, it is for that reason that we realise our great debt to the heroic Red army and the workers of the Soviet Union, whose continued efforts have contributed so much to the victory of human freedom. That debt rests on human lives and can, we feel, be discharged only by sincere co-operation in building a secure peace and by complele trust in our mutual good intentions. And on this, your National Day, we reaffirm our hearty goodWilt towards the Soviet people and send our congratulations and best wishes."
