INDUSTRIES FAIR
GOOD ATTENDANCE YESTERDAY The New Zealand Industries Fair in the Winter Show buildings continues to attract a large number of visitors, the attendance yesterday numbering 7,000 persons, bringing the total to date to 43,000. There were indications to-day that the attendance would 'be larger than yesterday, the number of visitors during the morning, reinforced by about 600 school children, being large for a morning session.
South'lsland members of Parliament who inspected the fair hurriedly after their arrival in Dunedin late yesterday afternoon were again present this afternoon, and were entertained by the fair executive at afternoon tea. A number of northern manufacturers have begun to arrive in Dunedin for the annual meeting of the Manufacturers' Federation, which begins on Thursday. Sir Harry Batterbee, British High Commissioner in New Zealand, will arrive in Dunetlin to-morrow, and will visit the fair.
The schools represented at the fair to-day included Normal, St. Philomena's, Alexandra, Outrain, Musselburgh, St. Bernadette's, St. Dominic's, Waipori Falls, Portobello, Macandrew Bay, and Broad Bay. An outstanding attraction last night was the skating ballets, featuring Miss Jean MeNulty, New Zealand champion. Because of the popularity of this item it has 'been arranged' for it to be repeated to-morrow afternoon. Miss Rita Cook presented some humorous sketches, and Miss Lupp's orchestra in the afternoon and the Kaikorai Band -in the evening played selections. In order that more children may have the opportunity of witnessing the Punch and Judy Show it has been arranged that morning performances, beginning to-morrow, will take wlace. Many children have been unable to see this show because of the pressure of adults -in front of the stage, and, as this is primarily a children's feature, the fair executive has requested that adults should give the children the fullest opportunities for seeing the show. The Cavalcade of Lingerie presented by Silknit (New Zealand) Limited will be repeated at to-night's session of the fair. The Burns Pipe Band will provide a 'programme of music. The fair will, close definitely on Saturday night, and within a very short time will be completely dismantled so that the buildings may 'be used for the storage of wool.
