•Mr R. Walls returned from the north by the express yesterday afternoon. The Mayor, Mr D. C. Cameron, returned to Dunedin from Wellington by the express yesterday afternoon. The High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, Sir Harry Batterbee, will arrive in Dunedin to-morrow.
The Leader of the Opposition, Mr S. G. Holland, accompanied by Messrs W. H. GiH es pie, M.P. for Hurunui, J. T. Watts, M.P. for Riccarton, and. J. Acland, M.P. for Temuka. arrived in Dunedin by the express yesterday afternoon. They visited the New Zealand Industries Fair late in the afternoon, and will make a fuller inspection this afternoon. ■ The Rev. J. G. S. Dunn, who was appointed cleifk of the Assembly of the Presbyterian Church at its meeting in Hastings, was on the staff of the Supreme Court at Christchurch and Napier for seven years, and was admitted as a solicitor* in 1911. " He was managing solicitor for two years pud a solicitor in private practice for five years. He attended' the Theological, Hall from 1920 to 1923, and took a postgraduate course at New College and Divinity Hall, Edinburgh, for three sessions in 1923 and 1924. He was convener of, the Board of Education from .1936 to 1940; convener of the Youth Committee in 1932 and 1933, and in 1938, 1939, 1940; convener of the Theological Committee from 1941 to 1944; and a member of the Judicial Committee for eight years. He was appointed assistant clerk of the Syndd of Otago and Southland in 1934, and clerk of the Synod in 1938. Mr and Mrs W E. Trott, of St. Clair, have received advice that their son, Pilot-officer W. A. L. Trott, has heen promoted to the rank of flying officer. Flying-officer Trott is serving with a New Zealand squadron in the "Western European theatre. At a meeting of the Otago Acclimatisation Society last night a motion, of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Mr C. E. Cameron, of Outram, one of the victims of the drowning fatality on. Lake Mahinerangi on October 23.. Mr Cameron was the secretary of tho Taieri Anglers' Club, a member of tho Acclimatisation Society, and its agent at Outram. Sympathy with the relatives of the four men who lost their lives was also expressed by the Mayor at a meeting of the City Council last night. Mr B. H. Nees left for Wellington to-day to attend a meeting of the Fur-, niture Trade Federation. Mr lan Matheson, president of the , New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation, arrived in Dunedin, yesterday to visit the New Zealand Industries Fair and attend the annual meeting of the federation.
