(Own Correspondent.) Died of Sickness.—Advice was received by his relatives in Balclutha on Saturday that Driver Charles Gordon MeFeeters had died of sickness'in Italy on October 31. Driver MeFeeters, who was 44 years of age, was the second son of the late Mr and Mrs H. MeFeeters, and was born a<id educated at Balclutha. On leaving school he was employed as a shop assistant'at the Import, Stores for a time, and subsequently worked for the Otago Electric Power Board and for Messrs Dawson and A. Duff, bakers. "Midge," as he was popularly known, left New Zealand . with the Fifth Reinforcements, and had been on service for some three and a-half years. He was a member of the Clutha Football Club, and for years was in charge of the social activities of the club. He was also keenly interested in cricket. While overseas his interest in football was maintained, and he was selector for the units to which he was attached. A brother, Ernie, is overseas in Italy, while another brother, Doug., is in the Air Force.

•Football Social.—On Saturday night the Clutha Football Club entertained members of the junior team at a social evening in the club room. Mr T. Wilson (president) was in the chair, and there was a good attendance, including representatives of the South Otago Sub-union. A very enjoyable time was spent, and during the course of proceedings the cup for the most improved player was presented to Colin Tweed, while a trophy for the most consistent attendance at practice was presented to Lindsay Wright. Cricket.—Clutha District League matches •were nlayed on Saturday. At Balclutha ■Freezer-Linen Flax defeated Benhar by 148 runs to 88 runs. For the winners Maguire made 37, Melvin 35, and Re. Blair 32. Bowling for Benhar, Budge took four wickets for 22 runs, and Maaka four for 12. McGrath was top scorer for Benhar with 16 runs, while the next best were Park (15) and Burrows (14). Bowling for the combined team, Pettit took two for 13, L. Mason two for 14, and Jardine two for 20. At Stirling, Football Club defeated the home team by 183 runs to. 86 runs. For Stirling, A. Barron knocked up 44, Whiteford 20. Bowling for Football Club, Inglis 'took two for 6 and M. Hansen two for 4. Stewart topped the score for Football with 33, T. Hansen being next with 32 and M. Hansen' 22. Dunn, two for 16, was the best bowler for Stirling.
