SHORT-LIVED BOUT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 6. A professional boxing contest between Jim Griffin (Wellington) and Clarrie Gordon (Auckland) to-night lasted exactly 2min 23sec. At this stage Griffin shot a rightto Gordon's head, tiio Auckland man goinjr down for the full count. The announcer later informed the crowded house that the referee, Mr Phin Stone, had declared the fight " no contest." Mr Stone later said that Gordon was certainly hit by a right on the head, but there was insufficient force in the blow to knock him out. Gordon's seconds worked ov»r him for some time before he left the ring.
