The rite of men doffing their hats during the passing through streets of a funeral cortege is fairly widely respected in Dunedin, but the observance of this tribute by an elderly man in the city this afternoon was attended by considerable embarrassment. He politely doffed his hat with a solemn gesture, and somehow a wig became
detached and was whisked away by a gust of wind. The funeral was well on its way before the wig was retrieved.
