CONFERRED ON HIGH AIR OFFICERS

(Rec. 10.35 a.m.) RUGBY, Nov. 3. On behalf of President Roosevelt, General Eisenhower conferred United States decorations -on Air Chief Marshal Sir Traft'ord Leigh-Mallory, who commanded the air component of the Allied expeditionary force in the invasion of France, Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Harris, Chief of Bomber Command, and Lieutenant-genera! Carl Spaatz, commanding General United States Strategic Air Forces, Europe, at an airfield near Paris to-day. Air Chief Marshals Leigh-Mallory and Harris received the Legion of Merit, chief of the commander class, and Lieutenant-general Spaatz received a cluster to the D.S.M. Air Chief Marshal Sir Sholto Douglas, Air Officer R.A.F. Coastal Command, was awarded the Legion of Merit in his absence on service for his services when Air Commander-in-Chief Middle East.
