NEW CANADIAN DEFENCE MINISTER LONDON, November, 2. Lieutenant-general A. G. McNaughton, the former commander of the Canadian army, has been appointed Minister of Defence in place of Colonel J. L. Ralston who has resigned. Colonel Ralston resigned following differences of opinion regarding the use of the Canadian Home Defence Army. He wanted to use it to supply reinforcements for the Canadian Expeditionary Force, but the Prime Minister, Mr Mackenzie King, opposed the idea.
